Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! Today, I want to share with you a message of profound hope and eternal purpose: the promise of a new heaven and a new earth. This glorious truth, revealed in Revelation 21, calls us to look beyond the temporary nature of earthly life and fix our eyes on the eternal reality of God’s Kingdom.
This promise is not just a distant hope for the future; it’s a living invitation to align our lives with God’s Word today. Let us reflect on this truth together and allow it to transform the way we live, think, and walk with God.
The foundation of all creation and renewal is the Word of God.
Biblical Foundation: John 1:1 declares, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus, the Word made flesh, came to unveil salvation and deliverance for all humanity.
Eternal Truths: Everything in this world fades, but God’s Word endures forever. As Isaiah 40:8 reminds us, “The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the Word of our God stands forever.” When we anchor our lives in the unchanging Word, we build on a foundation that cannot be shaken.
Beloved, if we are to embrace the promise of a new heaven and earth, we must allow God’s Word to shape our lives today.
Revelation 21 paints a breathtaking picture of the new heaven and earth that God has prepared for His people.
God Dwelling with His People: Revelation 21:3 says, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God.” Imagine this: God, living among us, wiping away every tear, and erasing all sorrow, pain, and death forever. What a glorious future awaits us!
The Temporary Nature of Earth: Everything we see around us—our possessions, achievements, and worldly gains—is temporary. As believers, we are reminded not to fix our eyes on the fleeting but to focus on eternal treasures (Matthew 6:19-20).
This promise shifts our perspective from worldly ambitions to eternal priorities. It reminds us that this life is not the end, but a preparation for the eternal joy of being in God’s presence forever.
The unveiling of a new heaven and earth calls us to live intentionally, prioritizing what truly matters. Here’s how we can keep our focus on eternal priorities:
1. Aligning with God
Our relationship with God is the most important thing in life. Philippians 3:8 reminds us, “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Knowing Him, loving Him, and obeying Him must take precedence over everything else.
2. Guarding Against Deception
The enemy works tirelessly to distract and deceive us. 2 Corinthians 4:4 describes Satan as the “god of this age” who blinds the minds of unbelievers.
The enemy uses worldly desires and philosophies to lure us into complacency.
Be vigilant, discerning, and grounded in God’s Word so that you will not be swayed by these deceptions.
3. Building a Legacy of Faith
While it is commendable to leave material inheritances for your family, the greatest legacy you can leave is a spiritual one. Teach your children to love and serve the Lord (Deuteronomy 6:6-7), and model a life of faith that they can follow.
Let us commit to living with an eternal perspective by taking these steps:
1. Trust in God’s Plan
Life on earth is temporary. Trust in God’s promises and focus on the eternal reward that awaits you.
Reflect on your life and ensure that your actions align with God’s Word.
2. Avoid Distractions
Be aware of the subtle ways the enemy uses worldly desires to steal your focus from God.
Resist the pull of materialism, selfish ambition, and temporary pleasures.
3. Embrace a Life of Faith
Devote yourself to regular prayer, worship, and the study of Scripture. These spiritual practices keep your heart anchored in eternal truths.
Seek fellowship and accountability with other believers who will encourage you in your walk with Christ.
Living with an eternal focus is not without challenges. Two obstacles often arise:
1. Historical Denials
Some deny the historical reality of Jesus Christ and the promises of Scripture. But we stand firm on the overwhelming evidence of His life, death, and resurrection, knowing that our faith is rooted in truth.
2. Cultural Misconceptions
Modern culture celebrates materialism and self-sufficiency, drawing people away from spiritual truths. Jesus warns us in Matthew 16:26, “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?”
Beloved, the promise of a new heaven and earth is not just a future hope—it’s a present reality that transforms how we live today. Let us:
Turn away from sin and embrace God’s gift of salvation through repentance.
Fully surrender our lives to God, pursuing holiness and obedience.
Share this glorious promise with others, living as witnesses of God’s love and faithfulness.
As we live with eternity in mind, our lives will reflect God’s glory and inspire others to seek Him.
Revelation 21:4 gives us a glimpse of the beauty and joy of eternity: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
This promise is not just about the end of suffering—it’s about the beginning of eternal communion with God. It’s about a future filled with His presence, peace, and glory.
I encourage you to reflect on this truth and allow it to guide your decisions, your focus, and your walk with Christ. Remember, this earth is not your home. Fix your eyes on what is eternal and live for the glory of God.
May the Lord strengthen you, inspire you, and keep you steadfast as you look forward to the unveiling of a new heaven and earth. Amen!
